Painters and Decorators in Wimbledon

Decide which rooms need attention now and which can wait. A phased Wimbledon refresh needs a clear present scope, not a whole-home list with an uncertain starting point.

A ROOM REFRESH. A DIFFERENT FEEL.

Separate the first stage from the wish list

You may want to redecorate the whole home eventually, while only two rooms need attention now. Write those priorities separately before requesting the quotation. For a Wimbledon project, identify what belongs in the work you are considering booking and what is simply a later possibility. That distinction lets the survey focus on actual surfaces and practical arrangements without losing sight of the wider scheme.

Right Build provides residential and commercial painting and decorating in Wimbledon, from a light refresh to fuller preparation and redecoration. Walls, ceilings, wallpaper and woodwork can be considered together, with exterior work included where required.

THE SCOPE, SURFACE BY SURFACE

Choose the surfaces, not just the colour

Use a room-by-room list to decide what belongs in the first stage. Each surface can then be assessed without assuming the same work is needed throughout.

Walls and ceilings

Emulsion painting, old paint and wallpaper removal, lining paper and new wallcoverings.

Doors and trim

Preparation and painting of frames, architraves, skirting, windows, sills, stair bannisters and handrails.

Timber floors and details

Staining, varnishing or painting wood flooring, and coving repairs or replacement ready for decoration.

Exterior work

Masonry and joinery preparation and repairs, with any necessary scaffolding discussed before booking.

Offices and commercial rooms

Wallpaper, feature walls, decorative paints and changes of colour.

Tenancy refreshes

An agreed repaint of the surfaces needing attention before handover.

FROM FIRST ENQUIRY TO FINAL DETAILS

How the decorating work comes together

Set out your priorities

List the rooms needing attention now and those that may follow later. Mention your preferred dates and household needs.

Survey and a written scope

At the Wimbledon property, discuss condition, materials and access. Agree the included preparation and finishes in a written scope and quotation before booking.

Protection and preparation

Agree which belongings need moving and what remains protected. Plan cleaning, stripping, sanding and repairs around the condition of each included surface.

Apply the finish and allow drying

Painting or wallpapering follows the agreed preparation. Discuss drying requirements and room access rather than assuming every surface can be used immediately.

Walk through the completed scope

Review the included surfaces together and raise any points needing attention. Keep material references and colour details for future maintenance.

THE DETAILS THAT MATTER

Assess each room on its own merits

Similar-looking walls may need different work beneath the finish. One room may have sound paint, another wallpaper or damaged plaster. Include those differences in the survey rather than assuming one preparation method suits every space. Doors, window frames and timber floors also need naming separately when they require attention.

PLANNING YOUR DECORATING WORK

Decide where the household can settle

Consider where beds, desks and larger furniture can go during each stage. If someone works from home, identify a room that needs to remain available and mention appointments affecting access. The programme should allow for preparation, decorating and drying; a preferred move-back date is useful information, not a substitute for assessing the work.

PLANNING A PROJECT IN WIMBLEDON

Check the property before changing outside finishes

For exterior work in Wimbledon, the council’s conservation-area information is a useful starting point. Check the actual address and whether additional controls affect your proposed change; ask the council if you are unsure.

Discuss storage, delivery access and any managing-agent arrangements alongside the room programme. These details belong in the brief before the work starts.

Really great service from this team. Great consultation at the start of the project – didn’t feel like they were trying to rush through like other companies. Quote received in a couple of days; really good communication throughout as we went back and forth to book a date. Builder Ivan was lovely and very talented. He did an even better job than we expected AND the quote was bang on. Couldn’t recommend more.

BEFORE WE GET STARTED

A few useful answers

How should I show work intended for a later stage?

Keep it on a separate list from the present scope. Explain any connection between stages, but confirm which rooms and surfaces you are actually asking to quote now.

Can old wallpaper be removed first?

Yes. Existing wallpaper can be removed as part of the room work. Discuss preparation separately for each stage rather than assuming every wall has the same condition.

Can just one room be decorated?

Yes. You can discuss an initial group of rooms rather than the whole home. Record any later possibilities separately from the work you are asking to book.

What should I say about staining or mould?

Record damage separately for each room. If staining follows an earlier leak, explain what happened and whether its cause has been addressed before planning the new finish.
