A ROOM REFRESH. A DIFFERENT FEEL.
Look at the window as more than a frame
Windows and doors can connect an interior refresh with the outside of a property, but their different faces should not disappear into one general description. A sill, a frame and the adjoining wall may each need a different level of preparation.
Right Build provides residential and commercial painting and decorating in Twickenham, including walls, ceilings, wallpaper, woodwork and exterior surfaces. Bring the condition of the joinery into the first discussion, not just the colour you want. A no-obligation survey can help define what needs preparing, repairing or decorating before the work is quoted.
THE SCOPE, SURFACE BY SURFACE
Set out the surfaces inside and outside
Break the work down by material and by the faces to be treated. The list below helps distinguish a joinery-led project from repainting the room around it.
Walls and ceilings
Emulsion painting and the assessment of old coatings before repainting.
Wallpaper
Removing existing paper or lining paper and hanging your chosen replacement.
Timber details
Doors, frames, architraves, skirting, window frames and sills, stair bannisters and handrails.
Preparation and associated finishes
Making good, plastering, coving repairs, and discussion of staining, varnishing or painting timber floors.
Exterior work
Masonry and joinery preparation and repairs, including any necessary scaffolding in the access discussion.
Commercial and rental properties
Office decoration, feature finishes and agreed end-of-tenancy painting.
FROM FIRST ENQUIRY TO FINAL DETAILS
How the decorating work comes together
Show each face and access route
Share photographs of frames, sills, doors and masonry. Identify internal and external faces and describe how the work areas can be reached.
Assess timber and exterior surfaces
The site assessment considers condition, repair needs and access. The written scope and quotation should make clear which surfaces and preparations belong in the work.
Prepare the agreed materials
Move items and clear routes as agreed. The specified timber, masonry or interior surfaces can then be protected and receive their planned preparation.
Complete the coatings and coverings
Coating and wallpaper stages follow the chosen finishes with suitable drying periods. Discuss access to newly finished surfaces before returning them to normal use.
Check the inside and outside items
Check the interior and exterior items separately. Review the frames, sills and adjoining surfaces included in the brief and identify any finishing details.

THE DETAILS THAT MATTER
Assess timber before it is repainted
Check for loose paint, worn edges and visible damage on the timber you want treated. Tell us which parts have caused concern and whether any repairs are already planned. Painting over a problem is not the same as establishing a suitable surface for the new finish.
The service includes cleaning, sanding and priming timber, with damaged windows, sills, doors and frames assessed for repair or replacement. For walls and ceilings, preparation can include stripping old coverings, making good cracks and holes, and plastering or skimming where needed. Exterior masonry preparation and repairs can also be discussed.
PLANNING YOUR DECORATING WORK
Make the access and scope equally clear
Write down whether you mean interior frames, exterior frames or both. Include sills and door faces separately where the finishes differ. Samples viewed beside the surrounding wall help you decide whether the joinery should contrast with the room or become part of a quieter palette.
Describe the access to every exterior surface, especially upper openings and areas reached through narrow or shared routes. Necessary scaffolding can be discussed as part of the assessment. Indoors, explain which rooms must remain usable and who will move belongings away from the agreed work areas.
PLANNING A PROJECT IN TWICKENHAM
Check the Twickenham address before exterior changes
Before proposed exterior changes in Twickenham, use Richmond Council's conservation-area maps and guidance to check the property. Establish the relevant boundary and requirements rather than assuming all addresses share the same position.

BEFORE WE GET STARTED
A few useful answers
Can only the exterior side of a window be included?
Specify the faces you want treated. The condition and access should be assessed separately from any internal frame or surrounding wall.
What if the timber is damaged rather than just peeling?
Show the damage during the survey. Repair or replacement can be considered before preparation and painting; another coat should not be treated as a substitute for that assessment.
What access details are needed for upper windows?
Describe how the building can be approached and any shared or narrow routes. The assessment can consider reach and any necessary scaffolding without assuming ground-level access is sufficient.
Can masonry near the joinery be considered too?
Exterior masonry preparation and repairs are within the services to discuss. List those surfaces separately so they are not confused with the timber repaint.
