Painters and Decorators in Bromley

In a kitchen or bathroom, marks and tired paint deserve a closer look before a colour change. Explain what has happened to the surface, then discuss the finish.

A ROOM REFRESH. A DIFFERENT FEEL.

Start with the marks, not the paint chart

A kitchen wall may be marked near cooking areas; a bathroom ceiling may have peeling paint or a recurring stain. These observations do not all point to the same work. Explain what you have noticed and where, rather than asking for a coating that will cover everything.

For a Bromley decorating project, Right Build can discuss room refreshes, preparation and related repairs alongside the intended finish. A no-obligation survey is the opportunity to assess the surfaces. If there is an unresolved source of moisture or staining, that belongs in the conversation before decoration is agreed.

THE SCOPE, SURFACE BY SURFACE

Separate preparation from the final appearance

Use the service range to describe the work you are considering. A written scope should distinguish making good from the finish applied afterwards, rather than leaving preparation as a vague assumption.

Ceilings and walls

Emulsion painting, removal of old paint and paper, lining and wallpapering.

Plaster and edges

Making good holes or cracks, plastering where needed and coving repair or replacement.

Joinery

Preparation and painting of doors, frames, architraves, skirting, windows and sills.

Stair and floor details

Bannisters, handrails and timber floor staining, varnishing or painting.

Exteriors

Masonry and woodwork preparation and repairs, with scaffolding requirements discussed.

Offices and rental properties

Decorative paints, feature walls and an agreed refresh of relevant surfaces.

FROM FIRST ENQUIRY TO FINAL DETAILS

How the decorating work comes together

Explain the room and its history

Describe the kitchen or bathroom surfaces, visible marks and any previous leak or repair. Show the affected area and how the room is used.

Survey the condition

Discuss affected surfaces and preparation before agreeing the written scope and quotation. Identify any areas needing further assessment.

Prepare a sound starting point

Agree protection and belongings first, then discuss removal, cleaning, making good and timber preparation according to the assessed work.

Decorate after preparation

The selected finish follows the preparation. Include drying and access requirements in the programme rather than rushing directly to reuse.

Check repaired and decorated areas

Review the agreed work together, including where new finishes meet retained surfaces. Raise outstanding points and keep material references.

THE DETAILS THAT MATTER

Give the surface history some space

Tell us about earlier leaks, recurring marks, loose coatings or any repair already attempted. Note whether the problem returns in the same area. You need not diagnose it yourself; the useful contribution is an accurate account rather than an assumption that a stronger paint is the answer.

Preparation may include removing dirt or grease, loose material, filling, plastering and priming as appropriate. Damaged timber can also be assessed. Agree how newly revealed conditions will be discussed if old coverings are removed.

PLANNING YOUR DECORATING WORK

Think about the room while it is out of use

Identify which walls, ceiling areas and woodwork are included, and what remains unchanged. Mention fittings or furniture that limit working space. A kitchen or bathroom enquiry should describe the surfaces being decorated rather than assume that every part of the room forms part of the job.

Explain how the household needs to use the room and whether another space is available. Discuss preparation, drying and access before planning a return to use. Material selection should follow the intended surface and assessed condition, with supply and final choices agreed before booking.

PLANNING A PROJECT IN BROMLEY

Look up exterior and heritage constraints first

Bromley Council’s conservation guidance links to a map showing conservation areas and listed or locally listed buildings. Check the property before deciding on changes to exterior finishes.

The address and proposed work determine what advice is relevant. Ask the council about uncertainties before treating a chosen paint scheme as approved.

Really great service from this team. Great consultation at the start of the project – didn’t feel like they were trying to rush through like other companies. Quote received in a couple of days; really good communication throughout as we went back and forth to book a date. Builder Ivan was lovely and very talented. He did an even better job than we expected AND the quote was bang on. Couldn’t recommend more.

BEFORE WE GET STARTED

A few useful answers

Should I clean kitchen marks before requesting a survey?

Explain and photograph them first. Cleaning and preparation can be discussed in the scope, with the surface assessed rather than assuming every mark has the same cause.

Can paint hide an old stain?

Do not assume a new coating resolves its cause. Explain the history, including any leak, so condition and appropriate preparation can be discussed.

Can the bathroom ceiling be considered separately?

Yes. Identify the ceiling and its condition explicitly. Explain staining, peeling and any known history rather than describing the enquiry only as a bathroom repaint.

What happens if stripping reveals further work?

The exposed surface may need additional preparation. Agree how its condition and any change to the scope will be discussed before proceeding.
